Cone 06 is NOT Cone 6.\u00a0 Don’t make the mistake of buying a Cone 06!\u00a0 <\/b>What\u2019s the difference?\u00a0 <\/b>Cone 6 = 2228\u00a0 Degrees Fahrenheit.\u00a0 Much higher temperature than Cone 06.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why?<\/b>\u00a0 With 2 different melting points, your\u00a0<\/b>pottery will NOT fire properly.\u00a0 It will either\u00a0<\/b>affect the clay or the glaze.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why do we do it?<\/b> It’s so your piece is not fragile to <\/b>handle AND you can glaze it easily in your hand.\u00a0 If you choose NOT to bisque fire, it\u2019s <\/b>your risk<\/b> if you break it while glazing.\u00a0 It\u2019s delicate!\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Is it necessary to bisque fire?<\/b>\u00a0 Not necessary, but it\u2019s common practice for all pottery studios.\u00a0 It makes your piece 80% solid so NOW you can move it, pick it up, spin it around & glaze it!<\/b><\/p>\n

What\u2019s that?<\/b>\u00a0 It\u2019s mostly used <\/b>under<\/b> a \u201cClear\u201d Cone 6 glaze.\u00a0 Mostly, not always.\u00a0 It\u2019s used directly on the dry clay (no need to bisque first).\u00a0 If you like to paint in detail, underglaze is effective.\u00a0 Also, lots of brighter colours that Cone 6 glazes don\u2019t offer.\u00a0 You still have to bisque fire after to apply the clear Cone 6 glaze to lock in the colours.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why?\u00a0 <\/b>Most pottery studios in Toronto fire at Cone 6.\u00a0 We want to keep it consistent.\u00a0 Cone 6 firing is perfect for kitchenware so pottery will be \u201cfood safe, microwaveable, oven safe, dishwasher safe.\u201d\u00a0 Most people want this.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why? <\/b>Imagine your oven at home.\u00a0 Would you ever turn it on to warm up a slice of pizza at 350 degrees? Probably not.\u00a0 We make sure our kilns are fully loaded with pottery before turning them on for firing.\u00a0 They are left on for 3-4 days at high temperatures!\u00a0 Expensive process & we don\u2019t want to waste electricity.<\/b><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
How do I do it?\u00a0 Glaze is<\/b>\u00a0a liquid so stir it up first.\u00a0 You can brush, dip, splatter, pour, and experiment with different techniques.\u00a0 Fyi, not easy to do any <\/b>fine<\/b> brushwork with Cone 6 glazes. For Beginners, it\u2019s better to bisque fire first.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why? <\/b>Because glazes will <\/b>always<\/b> stick to our kiln shelves and ruin your piece.\u00a0 To avoid disappointment & lots of hard work for us to chisel your piece off our kiln shelves, wiping the bottoms is so important.\u00a0 Not many studios offer firing services so we protect our very expensive kilns and kiln shelves.\u00a0 And our makers can keep making!\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
